Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Conference


Conference to Help Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
Oklahoma City, OK – The tenth annual Grandparents Raising Grandchildren conference will take place on September 14-16, 2006, at the New Covenant Christian Church in northwest Oklahoma City.
The three day event features over 35 breakout sessions covering a variety of topics facing grandparents in their parental role, like legal issues, available services, sexuality, gang involvement, drugs, spirituality, marriage, self care, the internet, stress, nutrition and many other topics.
The keynote speaker will be Reverend George Young of Holy Temple Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He will speak on “The Significance of Spiritual Support for Grandparents” on Thursday, September 14th.
Friday’s key events include an extended general session by Sandy Ingraham on “Navigating the Legal System” as well as special session by Dr. Ben Dickerson titled “Grandparenting: More than a To-Do List”. Also, the annual recognition luncheon will be held on Friday and State Senator Constance N. Johnson will give the address during this function regarding “Grandfamily Concerns & Advocacy”.
Saturday morning will be primarily dedicated to children, with an offering of workshops featuring topics catered to their needs. Also, the conference ends with a jovial general session by the comedy group DayZd & ConFewZd.
Other special events will be offered during the conference for participants to enjoy, including a health fair, massages, counseling sessions and a virtual rally campaign. A variety of vendors will be showcasing their products of services. Also, childcare and adult day care services will be available, with advanced registration, at no charge for participants.
